NEWS & UPDATES
Inaugural Sickle Cell Blood Drive- October 12, 2024
Cary Nupes proudly partnered with the American Red Cross to host our inaugural Sickle Cell Blood Drive. With a goal of 20 successful donations, we are thrilled to announce that we surpassed that goal with 23 successful donations!
Sickle cell disease disproportionately affects people of African descent more than any other racial group, impacting 1 in 365 African Americans. Blood transfusions are a critical treatment for managing sickle cell disease, as they help alleviate painful crises, reduce the risk of stroke, and improve overall health outcomes for those living with this condition. However, matching blood types from donors with similar ethnic backgrounds is essential for the best results, which is why our community’s contributions are so vital.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated and supported this important cause. Your generosity not only helps save lives but also brings hope to families affected by sickle cell disease. Let’s continue working together to make a lasting impact!
Supporting Childhood Cancer Awareness Month:
St. Jude Walk Run
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness and funds for childhood cancer research and treatment. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital plays a crucial role in this mission by providing groundbreaking care and conducting research to find cures for pediatric cancer. Throughout September, St. Jude emphasizes the importance of advancing treatments and supporting children and families affected by cancer, with the goal of ensuring that no child dies from cancer. Fundraising campaigns and events during this month help to spread awareness and drive support for the hospital’s lifesaving work.
Please support us in donating towards our $1500 goal for the Triangle St. Jude Walk/Run below that will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024:

Juneteenth In the Peak 2024
Cary Nupes, along with Western Wake Alumnae, participated in the Town of Apex Annual Juneteenth Festival by adhering to our fifth objective: “To inspire service in the public interest.” Juneteenth came into existence on June 19, 1865, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, and the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas finally received their freedom. Juneteenth is not solely a historical milestone; it is a celebration of African American culture, achievements, and contributions.
